Congratulations to Legal Aid Staff Attorneys Brandon Ballard and Floyd Oliver on their recent win in Regginald Moore et al. v. Dominque Joe, in which the Virginia Court of Appeals upheld their client's right to raise her child, affirming a judge's dismissal of a foster parent's attempt to gain custody of the child despite the successful reunification of parent and child, and clarified the legal standard in Virginia for granting custody to a non-parent.

In Minnesota Life Insurance Company v. Marcia Gayle et. al., a case involving a dispute over life insurance proceeds, Legal Aid attorney Brandon Ballard prevented the insurance company, who filed the action, from taking their attorneys' fee from the proceeds.
LASEV is thrilled to be a recipient of a Legal Services Corporation Pro Bono Innovation Fund Project grant, funding an attorney and paralegal for our Eviction Expungement Project. This project will engage volunteer attorneys to help address the eviction crisis in our service area, focusing on clearing up tenant rental and credit histories to reduce barriers to obtaining affordable housing.
